     William Ingals Abbott was born on 13 May 1820 at Andover, Oxford, ME.3,1 William succeeded his father in the Mill about 1847, built large additions to it to meet the increased demand for lumber and the manufacture of potato starch. He also remodeled the house, which he named the Umbagog House for the accommodation of lumbermen, sportsmen and summer travel which in his day were of much consequence.

In 1869 he sold the mills and his home becamea home for ministers of all denominations for many years althoughhe was not a member of any church. Charles E. Bean

     Charles was born at Letter B, Oxford, ME, on 17 April 1833.1,2 He married Sarah Jane Brooks on 2 July 1854.3,4 Charles E. Bean enlisted in the Union Army on 14 December 1861 at Upton, Oxford, ME. He enlisted from Upton on December 14, 1861, as a Corporal in Company H, 14th Maine, USA Infantry. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1862, and to 1st Sergeant in February, 1863. He re-enlisted on January 1, 1864.2 He was mlt discharge on 17 August 1865; Charles was discharged on August 17, 1865.2 Charles died on 17 December 1874 at Upton, Oxford, ME, at age 41.1
