He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Medal. His rank upon discharge was Seaman Second Class. At the time of his discharge from the Navy, he wanted to go to college and become a forester.7 He was graduated in June 1949from Bryant College at Providence, Providence, RI, where he received a BS in Accounting.8 Harold retired from Moore Business Forms, Inc. at Lewiston, Androscoggin, ME, in 1982.8 Harold was a Kiwanis member at Auburn, Androscoggin, ME, in 1998. He served as Club President and Secretary and remained active until the time of his death..9

Bob Walters retired from the U.S. Army after 29+ years as Command Sergeant Major of the 555 Combat Engineers. He joined the Ohio National Guard in 1939, which was federalized in January, 1940. During WWII he was a bomber co-pilot with the Army Air Corps. He was shot down near the Germany-Italy border and escaped capture. At the end of the war and immediately thereafter, Bob was assigned to OSS. During the 1960's he was attached to the Tank Automotive Command where he helped in the design of the M1 Tank. He also served in Korea and Vietnam before his retirement.
After leaving the military, he settled in Asheville and took the position of Recreation Director at the youth reformatory in Swannanoa. After his retirement from there, he was an awarded volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oteen, where he was instrumental in instituting a rehabilitation and prosthetics program and the hospice program.5 He began military service in 1938 at Ohio National Guard, Ohio.1 He ended military service in 1967 at NC.1

"Lieut. Alton E. Richards, U.S. Army Transportation Corps (Diesel Marine Engineer) & Cpl. Marion A. Rees, Womens Auxiliary Air Force (W.A.A.F. Royal Air Force) met in Plymouth, February 1945. He left for France in April. They married in June while he was on seven days leave.
The war in Europe ended. He remained on active duty in Germany - She sailed for N.Y. in April 1946, thence to Andover, ME. Alton arrived in August for 30 days R&R. They sailed from Brooklyn Navy Yard in September 1946 for Germany, where they lived until January 1950. Sandra and Chrystal were born in Germany, Francine in Houston, Texas. They left there in the spring of 1953 for Seattle and lived in that area ever since." He graduated in 1936 from Andover High School at Andover, Oxford, ME.4 He was inducted into the military at Fort Prebble, Portland, ME, in January 1936.5 He was released from active duty at Fort Prebble, Portland, ME, in January 1939.5 He appeared on the census of 1940 at Andover, Oxford, ME.6
